Shopify MCP serverand Python AI tasks

qbash hosts a Shopify MCP server you can use in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Grok Bot and Muse.

Developers use qbash Tasks to write cloud-hosted Python functions that pair Shopify with models such as Claude and GPT.

MCP server

Build a Shopify MCP server

Give ChatGPT, Claude and your other AI tools access to Shopify through one server. You pick which Shopify tools it shares, and you can add other connectors, memory folders and Tasks to the same server.

How to set it up

  1. Connect Shopify on the qbash Connectors page.
  2. Create an MCP server and add the Shopify tools you want to share.
  3. Paste the server URL into your client. It connects with OAuth or an access token.

Python AI task

Write a Shopify task in Python

A qbash Task is a hosted Python function that calls Shopify and AI models.

Draft a restock list for low inventory

Check one location for variants with 5 or fewer units, then ask an inline prompt to turn them into a restock list with the lowest stock first.

main.py
report = qbash.integrations.shopify.list_inventory_levels(
location_id="gid://shopify/Location/1234567890",
max_available=5,
)
levels = report.get("inventory_levels", [])
if levels:
restock = qbash.ai.run_prompt(
slug="shopify-restock-list",
variables={"levels": json.dumps(levels)},
)
qbash.output({"restock": restock, "more_available": report.get("has_next_page", False)})
else:
qbash.output("No variants are at 5 units or fewer.")

What the Shopify connector can do

  • Get the connected Shopify store's name, myshopify domain, currency, timezone and plan. Use it to check the credential works
  • List orders, newest first, filtered by created or updated time, financial status, fulfillment status or a Shopify order search query. Returns one page with totals as decimal strings in the shop currency. Only the last 60 days are visible unless the app has read_all_orders
  • Get one order with line items, addresses, shipping lines, fulfillments with tracking, and refunds. Accepts the GID, the numeric ID or the order name (#1001)
  • List customers with email, order count and total spent, filtered by a Shopify customer search query. Returns one page
  • Get one customer with their default address and most recent order
  • List products with price range, total inventory and, by default, their first 10 variants with SKU, price and stock. Returns one page
  • Get one product with description, options, up to 100 variants with SKU, price and stock, its featured image and the collections it belongs to
  • List product collections with their product counts. Returns one page
  • List the store's inventory locations (warehouses, shops, apps that hold stock). Use a location id with list_inventory_levels
  • List stock levels (available, on hand, committed, incoming) for every item at one location, with SKU and product title. Set max_available to keep only low-stock items. Returns one page
  • Run a read-only Shopify Admin GraphQL query for data the other modes do not cover (metafields, draft orders, discounts, gift cards). Mutations are refused
  • Add tags to an order, customer, product or draft order. Tags already present are left as they are. Needs the write scope for that resource
  • Remove tags from an order, customer, product or draft order. Needs the write scope for that resource

qbash Tasks: AI applications in Python

A Task is a Python function that calls Shopify, your other connectors and models such as Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok. qbash hosts and runs it.

Run Tasks on a schedule or from your team's tools

OpenAIAnthropicGrokGmailSlackGitHub+ more
  • Deterministic where it counts Write the logic in Python and call a model only for the steps that need judgement, so the rest runs the same way every time.
  • Version controlled Every save is a revision you can compare and roll back.
  • Logged Each run records its inputs, output, errors and what started it.
  • Shared credentials Connections belong to your organization, so a Task keeps working when its author is away.

Shopify MCP questions

Does Shopify have an official MCP server?

Shopify publishes the Dev MCP server, which searches Shopify’s docs and API schemas, and Storefront MCP for shopping assistants on a store. The qbash server reads your own store’s Admin API data, such as orders, customers and inventory levels.

Can it change orders or products?

Only their tags. GraphQL mutations are refused, and add_tags and remove_tags need the write scope for that resource.

Build a Shopify task

Write it in Python with AI steps, and qbash hosts it with versions and run logs.
